Location Relative Location- The Czech Republic is Southwest of Poland, Northwest of Slovakia and East of Germany. Absolute Location- The capital of the Czech Republic, Prague, is located at 50°05′N 14°25′E Place The Czech Republic has a rich culture. It shares many characteristics with other Slavic based cultures (These include Austrian, Slovak, German and Polish). The official language of the Czech Republic is Czech, a language that shares many characteristics with Russian, Polish and Slovak, although most people, especially those under 50, will speak English. 26% of the Czech people live in rural areas, meaning that 74% percent live within the boundaries of a city, town, or village. 59% of Czech people say that they are either atheist or agnostic, making the Czech Republic one of the least religious countries in the world. Human-Environment Interaction Up until recently the Czech Republic had a pollution problem, however, recently with the help of the European Union, they have begun building alternative energy power plants and making their factories more environmentally friendly. Also, up until recently coal mining was the largest industry in the Czech Republic, now it is still a major industry, but less than it was before. The Czech Republic has a few dams, most of which are hydro-electric dams meaning that they do little to change the geography of the czech republic. Movement The Czech Republic is very well connected to other countries. They have their own airline, CSA Czech Airlines, which flies to destinations around the world. In addition they host the low-cost airlines Sky Europe and Smartwings which operate bases in Prague. The Czech Republic also features well developed roads and an elaborate rail system. The Czech Republic trades with many countries, especially those in Europe and North America. Their major exports include beer, hops (which are used to make beer), coal, automobiles and machinery.
